Chapter 1 Members’ Linda Barras and Aaron You Awarded IRWA CHAPTER 1 — 2022-2023 EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
IRWA Chapter 1 congratulates Linda Barras and Aaron You on being awarded the 2022-2023 EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS. The Scholarship will assist them as they work to achieve their Senior Right of Way Professional (SR/WA) credentials. The program is a valuable benefit to Chapter 1 members who utilize the voucher as a tool to offset some of the cost of the educational requirements to pursue their professional development goals. To apply, Linda and Aaron each submitted essays about how the scholarship would enable their pursuit of IRWA certification requirements and detailing their plans on how they plan to complete it. Here is some background on the 2022-2023 Educational Scholarship recipients:

“I am involved in the Land Profession because I love people. From 2003 to 2016, I had my own abstracting business researching surface and mineral title from Land Patent. I began my career with Caltrans in 2017 and joined the Right of Way Property Management team. I was then rotated to the Condemnation Unit in 2020 a week before the pandemic lock down. My education and training in this unit happened via email, Zoom and phone calls. I am a member of the AAPL and an active member in the Los Angeles Association of Professional Landmen and recently accepted the Membership Chair position.
I am a member of the International Right of Way Association and will complete my SR/WA-TN certification in February 2023. I look for the best in people, and I understand that failure is an opportunity to learn. I have had many failures in my life, but in each of those things that happened, I learned valuable lessons. It has made me wiser and more compassionate towards others.” Linda Thibodeaux- Caltrans District 7.

“Hi, my name is Aaron and I am a Land Advisor for SoCalGas’ Land and Right-of-Way department. My job is to provide assistance to our clients related to all matters of land rights and compliance. I am a licensed Certified General Appraiser with expansive knowledge and experience in right-of-way valuation. My unpaid profession, but the most rewarding, is being a loving husband and father to my wife and two beautiful, intelligent, and charismatic daughters. I am an avid Lakers fan and enjoy playing any competitive sport, especially basketball, billiards, and golf. I would like to thank the IRWA Chapter 1 for the scholarship and wish everyone a Holiday season filled with love, health, and happiness. Cheers to a prosperous 2023!” Aaron S. You- SoCalGas
