Hello Chapter 1 Members!

A clear takeaway based on the turnout at the recent events is that members are ready to get back to networking, learning, and socializing. Who doesn’t like and appreciate a good get together with like-minded people?

Back in May, Chapter 1 hosted its first in-person lunch since March 2020 and the turnout was wonderful! The Awards & Officers luncheon allowed us to honor April Harvey for her leadership, support, and guidance as the outgoing Chapter President; Neidy Pinuelas and Alana Edwards as Professionals of the Year; Diana Kwan as the Young Professional of the Year; CBRE- Encino (formerly Integra) as Small Employer of the Year; and Los Angeles Department of Water & Power as the Large Employer of the Year. Congratulations to all of the award recipients! A special thank you to Craig Justesen and the entire Nominations & Elections committee for your tireless efforts in making the luncheon happen.

It was followed less than two weeks later with the 31st Annual Valuation Seminar where the turnout was greater than expected with over 100 attendees. The enormous amount of positive feedback shared by attendees regarding the curated topics, length of panel sessions, and how well the information was delivered only shows how much work Chairs, Ryan Hargrove and Paul Norlen, and the entire committee (Charles Thomas, Joyce Riggs, and Jason Riggs) did to produce such a wonderful event. Thank you for your efforts!

This year, Chapter 1 will be providing you the opportunities for learning, networking, socializing, and then some, because in addition to our normally scheduled classes, luncheons, and happy hours, we’ll be celebrating the Chapter’s 90th Anniversary and will also be host of this year’s 70th Annual International Education Conference in Long Beach. Celebrations galore!! Here are a few of the events that you can look forward to this year:

-Past Presidents Luncheon in November (keep scrolling for more details)
-Tri- Chapter Luncheon in December
-90th Anniversary for the Chapter in February
-Joint IRWA/ Appraisal Institute Luncheon in March
-Spring Forum in April
-32nd Annual Valuation Seminar in May
-70th Annual International Education Conference in June

The demand for virtual IRWA Courses and Certifications has been accelerating and because of the career path opportunities and the ease of access, members were inspired to get their credentials. To keep the momentum going or to request a certain course, please read Alana Edwards’ article below.

All events, including courses, provides our members the opportunity to network and volunteer so please don’t feel shy to reach out and connect with your colleagues and peers from different agencies and organizations. I can always make a connect

This newsletter is one of our tools to communicate with chapter members, current and future, what the board is working on, when we meet, what education opportunities are available and updates from various committees including our agency partners. I hope you take the time to scroll through the articles and share it with others who may not be on our mailing list.

The Board and I look forward to serving and representing Chapter 1 members. Please feel free to reach out to me or members of the Board with any comments or recommendations.
